About me

I’m Giuseppe Mazzola, a freelance photographer with a long career in the entertainment and art, culture and news, with experience acquired at national and international level.
Born in Palermo in 1981, graduated in Advertising Graphics and graduated in Sciences and Technologies of Art, in my personal and professional path I weave a humanistic cultural education to a direct visual and anti- rhetorical language.

My first steps in photography tell the society and culture of his time, through the events that most represent it. Photography as a need, as a tool for knowledge and information, for training, through a subjective language, direct and honest.
From this conception of photography, I developed a thought based on listening, inclusion, curiosity and education, and I built a professional career based on knowledge and dissemination of events, investigating society through entertainment, news and social reporting.

For years I have played the role of photographer and graphic-designer for the Michael Jackson USA Fanclub (MJFC), supervised by the same artist, for whom I have made photographic reportages, in Europe and the United States. I have been working with AllMusicItalia, one of the major music and entertainment information sites in Italy, for which I have created services related to concerts, instore, meet & greets and national events.

Among the (national and international) artists in my portfolio: Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Christina Aguilera, Laurin Hill, Bruce Springsteen, Skunk Anansie, Jarabe De Palo, David Lynch, Carmen Consoli, Max Gazzè, Franco Battiato, Malika Ayane, Samuele Bersani, Paola Turci, Lorenzo Cherubini, Massimo Ranieri, Edoardo Bennato, Francesco Renga, Nek, Fiorella Mannoia, Elisa, Il Volo, Luca Carboni, Fabrizio Moro, Ermal Meta, Fedez, J-Ax, Alessandra Amoroso, Patty Pravo, Gianni Morandi and others.

One of my main (photographic) activities is Civil And Social Reportage.

The testimony of the LGBTQIA+ reality in Palermo and the struggle for civil and human rights is among my most popular photographic engagements: my documentary activism, today consists of a large docu-photographic archive, including PRIDE parades, events, conferences and cultural events related to the LGBTQIA+ community and its reality today, including the recent photo/video reportage of EUROPRIDE 2023 in Malta, which allowed me to photograph, film and interview the major artists protagonists of the event.

I made a report between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, testifying to nature, culture and local traditions. Sobre La Gente: Dominicanos Y Haitianos, this is the title of the report, will be doubly awarded at the 2017 National Photography Competition XVIII Edition "Enzo La Grua Young Award" in Castelbuono (Palermo): "Mention Of Merit" and "Audience Award".

One of the most challenging and personal photo-documentary projects is Auschwitz After Auschwitz: A vast and complex report made, between 2017 and 2021, in concentration and extermination camps in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Italy, with the aim of delivering history as a tool of knowledge and sensitizing the user to the Memory of the Shoah.

An exhibition, Journey In Remembrance, held at the premises of the Botanical Garden of the University of Palermo, from 26 January to 17 February 2019 (sponsored by CoopCulture and MUSEIUNIPA - Museum System Of The University of Palermo) was visited by thousands of visitors through a journey of reflection and sharing between schools, conferences and events related to the Holocaust and Remembrance Day.

In October 2020, I was the author of an initiative entitled "I want to Exist as...": a photographic project that, through the focus of the Portrait Photo, wants to give voice and a face to all the operators of the show united by that feeling of revenge and pretense in being recognized as such. The project brings together hundreds of applications and a public and media interest of great impact.

In 2021/2022, in addition to the usual activity of documentary photographer and entertainment and art, I undertook a personal path related to the dissemination of anti-hatred culture, in accordance with my ethical and honest photography, which has become a means of communication and total awareness. The result of this ethical and introspective, social and cultural journey is La Voce Della Memoria (The Voice Of Memory), a DOCU-Educational Report filmed between Italy, Poland and England; a project strongly desired to spread and spread the Memory of the Shoah, pass it on, protect it from any abuse that is made of it, through interviews and interventions by some of the survivors of the Shoah, Historians and Experts, directors/ women of Associations and Foundations, students and teachers.

The documentary was screened in one of the biggest cinemas in the city, Cinema Gaudium, and has seen the arrival of thousands of students and educators.
It will be followed by conferences, workshops and events aimed at teaching and historical dissemination among schools, institutes and associations at national and international level.

My continuous growth takes me beyond the horizon imposed by geographical and cultural limits. Tell, document, inform, be a bridge between the event and the world and never a wall built with "points of view of interest" grant immediate reality in total respect of its honesty and in all its truth and make it an instrument of knowledge and an opportunity to build individual thought, this is the purpose of my photography, which means many things, many more than I tried to explain with this (long but necessary) presentation of me and my writing with light.

Therefore I am very interested, in spite of the adversities that the geographic distances may impose, to the opportunity that Reuters offers in the formation of a photojournalism totally adherent to my person and my photographic personality.
